Award-winning filmmaker: Chun Chuan with the poster of her short film.?

Cha Chun Chuan has a deep passion to tell compelling and meaningful stories. Her latest narrative, a short film titled ‘The Next Stop’, was so touching that it won the TAR UMT graduate the Rising Filmmaker award at the inaugural LUMINA Film Festival 2025 held on 15 – 17 May 2025.

The graduate crafted a gentle, heartfelt story about family, forgiveness, and learning to see loved ones in a more honest light. The film was inspired by her personal experience.

“This film is a message to young people who might be going through hard experiences which are traditionally seen as a taboo and thus not discussed openly, resulting in many of us ending up carrying a heavy emotional burden in our lives. Through this story I wanted to share the important message to young people that they are not alone in this, and I believe we can face our struggles together through open communication and acknowledging our emotions,” said Chun Chuan.

Even though she was unable to attend the awards ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand on 17 May 2025, Chun Chuan was thrilled to witness her work receive such recognition.

‘The Next Stop’ won the Rising Filmmaker award at the LUMINA Film Festival 2025.

“My success is also thanks to my lecturers, especially Ms Loh Me Ping, who were always generous with their guidance and resources. More importantly, they always challenged my mindset and creativity which helped sharpen my storytelling skills. I must also give a shout-out to my amazing crew, actors and sponsors – this film was a result of a collective effort which I am deeply grateful for,” she expressed.

Currently attached to Eight FM, this inspiring young lass is working towards building a career in the media industry. However, Chun Chuan has not let go of her passion for great storytelling.

“I still yearn for more opportunities to create stronger and meaningful short films in the future. I also hope my work will reach out to more people, and inspire them along the way.”
