MSU Launched Its School of Veterinary Medicine (SOV)

SHAH ALAM, 26 August – The Medical and Health Sciences cluster at Management and Science University (MSU) has expanded with the inauguration of the School of Veterinary Medicine (SOV).

MSU becomes the first private university in Malaysia to offer a veterinary programme, the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), strengthening the nation’s veterinary education landscape. This initiative responds to the advancing demand for veterinary professionals, whose roles today extend far beyond clinical practice.

The soft launch of SOV took place at the MSU’s Performing Arts Theatre in main campus. supported by the International Medical School (IMS). The event featured a forum and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony with key industry players.

The soft launching of the School of Veterinary Medicine was officiated by Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, President and Founder of MSU. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of Professor Puan Sri Datuk Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, Vice Chancellor of MSU; Professor Dr Indang Ariati Ariffin, Vice President for International Affairs; Professor Dr Mohamad Khairuddin Abdul Wahab, Dean of the International Medical School (IMS); Professor Datin Paduka Setia Dr Aini Ideris and Professor Dr Abd Aziz Saharee, both serving on the MSU Advisory Board for the School of Veterinary Medicine; as well as members of the University’s senior management team.? To lead this newly established faculty, Professor Datuk Dr Bashir Ahmad Fateh Mohamed has been appointed as the Dean of the SOV.

“Establishing SOV is our commitment to advancing the animal health industry. We are also exploring the perspective of veterinary education, research, and professional standards in line with global standards. This initiative goes beyond animal health, impacting community safety, the food system, and the supply chain within our country. We believe that SOV can complement and contribute to the nation’s veterinary education landscape. We express our gratitude to all well-wishers and supporters who have enabled us to launch and run SOV,” expressed Professor Dr. Mohd Shukri in his welcoming address.

In conjunction with the launching, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also exchanged between MSU, through the School of Veterinary Medicine (SOV), and its industry partners: Vet Partners (M) Sdn Bhd, Teguh Setia Jaya, and AGK Dairy Fresh Sdn Bhd, aimed at further strengthening collaborative efforts in the field of veterinary medicine.

The forum, with the title “Advancing Animal Industry through Excellence in Veterinary Education”, featured a keynote address along with insights from distinguished guests representing academic, industry, and professional veterinary practice.? Delivering the keynote address was Dr. Mohd Noor Hisham Mohd Harun, the Acting Director General, Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).

The first session of the forum included presentations by Datuk Jeffrey Ng Choon Ngee, the Advisor of the Federation of Livestock Farmers’ Associations of Malaysia (FLFAM), on poultry and non-ruminants;?Khairul Sukri, the Co-founder?of AGK Dairy Fresh Sdn Bhd, on ruminants; and Dr. Tan Check Nam, the former president of the Malaysian Small Animal Veterinary Association (MSAVA), on small animals and veterinary practice.

The second session highlighted Professor Datin Paduka Setia Dr. Aini Ideris, a member of the MSU Advisory Board, SOV, who spoke on veterinary research, and Professor Datuk Dr. Bashir Ahmad Fateh Mohamed, who presented on veterinary education.

The forum was moderated by Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahareem, the Council Member and Registrar of the Malaysia College of Veterinary Specialists and a member of the Malaysia Veterinary Council.

The establishment of the School of Veterinary Medicine (SOV) complements the existing faculties at MSU, which include the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies, the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering, the International Medical School, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Dentistry, the School of Education and Social Sciences, the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts, the School of Graduate Studies, the Graduate School of Management, and the Centre for Fundamental Studies.
