Malaysia has had 24 Ministers of Education and four Ministers of Higher Education.	Tun Abdul Razak Hussein was the first Education Minister. He held this position from 1952 until 31 August 1957 when he became the first Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.	Established on 1 January 1962, Universiti Malaya is the oldest university in Malaysia.
In the QS World University Rankings 2020, Universiti Malaya clinched 70th position, its highest ever ranking.	Malaysia now has: 20 public universities, 37 polytechnics, 105 community colleges	Multimedia University First private university in Malaysia, established in 1996.
Monash University Malaysia First foreign university branch campus in Malaysia, established in 1998.	Today, Malaysia has: 47 private universities, 34 private university-colleges, 10 foreign university branch campuses	The Compulsory Education Act 2003 ensured that six years of primary education is compulsory for all Malaysians.
Since 2008, primary and secondary school students at public schools enjoy free textbooks under the Textbook Loan Scheme	In 1958, there were 4430 primary schools in Malaysia; in 2018, the number was recorded at 7776	Malaysia is home to about 170,000 international students from 135 countries
