Shah Alam, 26 August 2025 - Management and Science University (MSU) has made history by becoming the first private university in Malaysia to establish a School of Veterinary Medicine (SOV) and offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programme.
The inauguration of SOV, held at the MSU Performing Arts Theatre, marks a significant expansion of the university’s Medical and Health Sciences cluster. - Current production is around 220 graduates per year, far below the demand.
- Nearly 59% of Malaysians own pets, yet there are only about 650 authorised vet clinics nationwide.
The shortage is further aggravated by rising pet ownership, the country’s reliance on agriculture and food industries, and the crucial role vets play in zoonotic disease control, halal meat certification, vaccine development, and One Health initiatives.
