Covid-19 Alert: Malaysia bars entry to long-terms pass holders from high-risk countries

Beginning Monday, 7 September 2020, Malaysia will impose an entry ban on citizens of countries that have recorded more than 150,000 cases of Covid-19.
To date, the 23 high-risk countries listed in the entry ban are the United States, Brazil, India, Russia, Peru, Colombia, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Iran, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, France, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Iraq, the Philippines and Indonesia.
The ban involves the citizens of high-risk countries who are long term pass holders of these categories:
- permanent residents (PR)
- Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) pass holders
- all expatriates including those holding an employment pass, resident-talent pass, professional visit pass, or dependent pass
- resident pass holders
- spouse or child pass holders of Malaysian citizens
- student pass holders
- temporary work visit pass holders
However, exempted from the entry ban are diplomats, ship crew, pilots and air crew, and oil and gas crew.
