Course Overview

Embarking the medical pathway is but a lifelong journey in the provision of healthcare services. In parallel to World Health Organisation, a medical practitioner's ultimate goal is to ensure patients attain both physical and mental health at the highest level. Nothing is more rewarding than to contribute to the promotion of the health status, either by prevention, treatment or curative.

The UTAR MBBS programme follows a systemic and integrated approach that aims to equip graduates with not only the required clinical skills, but also effective communication skills to function as competent and caring doctors.

Academic foundation, analytical and critical thinking ability will be provided for engagement in life-long learning, research and continuing professional development. Ethical values, professionalism and moral responsibility to both patients and the community will be instilled in the UTAR graduates.

Career Prospects

After obtaining the medical degree, graduates are eligible for provisional registration by the Malaysian Medical Council and undergo a two-year compulsory internship as house-officers in accredited government hospitals. They are then given full registration, and continue to serve in the capacity of a medical officer.

Following completion of the compulsory services, doctors may choose to venture into private practice. They can also opt to pursue a career as a medical specialist, or even sub-specialise into the area of interest subsequently. For those who are interested in research, they can pursue a PhD or a Doctorate of Medicine degree.

For an academically inclined graduate, one may choose a career as as clinical lecturer in any medical school.

  • All fees are in RM (Ringgit Malaysia) currency unless stated otherwise.
