Cambridge A Levels
I picked Cambridge A Levels mainly because this course provides a wide range of choices for further education. It is well recognised in most countries, unlike Form 6 and matriculation which will only enable you to enter local universities. Besides, unlike foundation, A Levels does not tie you to any course, which was helpful because I had not made up my mind on which course to take back then. A Levels is 100% exam-based, and my academic results show that I would favour this system. Besides, UK is a good place to study architecture, and Cambridge A Levels would greatly help me to apply to study in UK.
I love the fact that we get to learn more than anyone else. In A Levels, we really go into the details; it’s almost as deep as university level. We don’t have as many deadlines to meet as CPU or SAM students, as we are 100% exam-based. Hence, during non-exam periods, we are actually freer, and thus have more time to study and deepen our knowledge.
Canadian Pre-University
I was really thinking of continuing my tertiary education in Canada and after a fortunate meeting with the Principal, Mr Jim Leonard, in which he explained to me the interactive learning style that CPU offers, I was convinced that CPU would be a great choice to prepare for my tertiary education. I was also yearning for a kind of grading system in which each contribution I make is recognised and graded, instead of having all my grades' fate falling on one exam in one day - CPU offers just that with its grading system of 70% coursework and 30% exam.
I really enjoy the student-centred style of learning in which I get to share my ideas and not being bogged down only by the teachers' lectures. The line between teacher and student is blurred and it really feels as if we have an older brother/sister teaching us. I love how the classes are casual and teachers incorporate different learning styles in order to foster discussion about various topics. I love the way how at the end of an assignment we are told to reflect and discover ways on how to improve ourselves. It is this self-reflection that helps each one of us develop as an individual as well as a team player.
South Australian Matriculation Programme (SAM)
The reason why I chose SAM was because of its course structure. The whole idea about a five subject combination along with the 50% internal and 50% external assessment* for only a duration of 10 months plus, really appealed to me. After my SPM, I was looking for a course that is well-recognised and would prepare me for tertiary level in the fastest possible time. The course duration really is a contributing factor to me. Taking up SAM really help me in building up my soft skills as well as presentation skills. These skills are necessary for me in order to pursue my future ambition in the business line as I would eventually have to deal with many people. SAM definitely taught me how to manage my time. SAM helped me in getting accustomed to the learning style at tertiary level.
I enjoyed preparing for debates, presentations and planning for experiments throughout my course. These are the fun parts of SAM where I got to spend time with my classmates while interacting with the lecturers.
